PROTECTIVE HAIRSTYLES RIGHTY??

WHY PROTECTIVE HAIRSTYLES ???

So when its winter in the U.K as well as many parts of the world like Canada ! And for some, summers only begun or the sun is always there throughout the year hmmm lucky people !

When its Winter in the UK I tend to wear a lot of protective hairstyles. Why is this ?? Well its in the name. I need to protect my hair from the cold just like we need to protect the rest of our body from the cold by wearing scarves and gloves. There are many other things we normally do differently during winter which includes keeping warm by spending many pennies on the gas and electricity, heading out using your CAR instead of walking to your local stores, stuffing yourself with the best Cornish pasties and pies next to the fire place watching The Snow Man and so forth and so on!
So many times like this we just don't get time to look after our hair which normally gets really dry in the winter and cause breakage which is not what we want righty my Natural Sisters outta there !!!
Protective hair styling is always the key to tackle this issue especially if you have created a protected hairstyle where you still can get hold of your scalp and feed it with all the amazing foods it needs to grow while in winter !
Although for some you're pretty lucky ayyy no Winter at all and if you do I bet your winter is only 10 degrees as the lowest temperature.

Hair can come in synthetic material like Xpressions or in The States you have Freetress hair.

OR
Real human hair which tends to be more on the expensive side.
Or another type but I won't mention it.....

You can still use either one to achieve the same styles.

Weaves and Wigs

I'm not a hater for wigs and weaves at all. You gotta do what you gotta do right ! I mean I adore my afro hair but I want to keep it protected especially during the winter times and wait for spring/summer to show off the wonderful bigggg puff of curly afro hair !!! Wigs and Weaves help hair to grow because you are not exactly doing much to it everyday where it creates the hair to become very weak and tired of too much handling causing breakage. Its really quick to style in the mornings and they are many styles in which you can do with weaves/wigs that maybe your natural hair may not be able to do at this point in your hair growth journey! The heat generated from you scalp will stay in and help the hair to grow but obviously not like hair straighteners type of heat. You can also purchase hair sprays which you can spray onto the hair that are able to seep to your scalp and keep the hair moisturised!
By the way you can make it more realistic with the invention of front lace weaves or wigs which means you can choose your parting and make it look like your real parting. Some people blend it even more with foundation.

 Braids

Thick braids/box braids/tree plate braids/jumbo braids e.t.c are really much in fashion especially right now !!! Again like weave they are easy to style especially in the mornings when you're just so busy or need to spend more time on something else.
Box braids may seems to be heavy at first and be careful when you are installing them not to make them to tight especially at the front because you will have some breakage. But once they are settled then BAM they style can be taken to a different level.
If you want you could also try twists but make sure you choose the right type of hair which will last for example Marley Braids. Marley braids are more realistic and look fab when you have them quite thick.
Tree plate braids come out a bit like weave except you use braids/extensions such as expressions. You can easily style tree plate braids into a bob for example with a middle parting or side partying what ever is your choice.

Crochet braids

I am in love with them although i have not yet tried them on myself. Normally when i do my clients hair i pick crochet braids for them. The best would be the kinky curly look because you can style this to look so natural and just like your own hair. You can also have a leave out with crochet braids to help make it more realistic but make sure you go for the hair type that matches your hair.
Crochet braids also allows you to have access with the tracks so when it comes to moisturising you can easily follow the rows.  The plus side to crochet braids is that they are sooooo easy to remove unlike braids and weave. You just loosen it like you are loosing your real hair.

So you know there's so much plusses with protective hairstyles. So much options. If you don't like wearing wigs well hey there's another way of protective hairstyling, there is more than enough styles to suite everyone in this world all you have to do is give it a try and I am personally recommending you to do so.

But hey the results will be amazing once you've removed it to check your hair length. Trust me from experience I have noticed a lot of hair growth. Remember
1) The less fiddling and fumbling with hair the more time it will get to relax and grow.
2) When wearing a protective hair style remember to keep your hair moisturised.
3) If your hair is too tight after installing your hair spray your hair with cold water or tab a cold towel on this will help to loosen up the tightness and ease the pain.
4) Feel happy wearing protective hairstyles even though its not your natural self, your hair will be growing underneath and once you take it out you'll see such a difference and be able to flaunt it in summer.

STAY PROTECTED ;)

P.S I shall be going into more detail with how I do different protective hairstyles on later post.Keep posted
